Rabbinic Group Commends President Trump for Condemnation of Anti-Semitism
March 1, 2017

The Coalition for Jewish Values commends President Donald Trump for his clear and unequivocal condemnation of anti-Semitism and bigotry before the February 28th joint session of Congress.

The President opened his address by saying, “Tonight, as we mark the conclusion of our celebration of Black History Month, we are reminded of our nation’s path toward civil rights and the work that still remains to be done. Recent threats targeting Jewish Community Centers and vandalism of Jewish cemeteries, as well as last week’s shooting in Kansas City, remind us that while we may be a nation divided on policies, we are a country that stands united in condemning hate and evil in all of its very ugly forms.”

This is far from the first time that President Trump has condemned anti-Semitism and all forms of bigotry. A week prior, the President stated, “The anti-Semitic threats targeting our Jewish community and community centers are horrible, and are painful, and a very sad reminder of the work that still must be done to root out hate and prejudice and evil.”

On February 19, Vice President Mike Pence and his family visited the infamous Dachau concentration camp, where the Vice President declared, “We can never forget atrocities against Jews and others in the Holocaust.” Three days later, Vice President Pence visited the vandalized Jewish cemetery in St. Louis, where he assisted in its restoration and remarked that he and the President “condemn this vile act of vandalism and those who perpetuate it in the strongest possible terms. As President Trump said yesterday, America will fight bigotry and hatred in every way.”

The President and Vice President have made great efforts to work with and support Jewish communities across America, and the Administration’s exceptional ties with the Orthodox Jewish community are unprecedented in American political life.

The CJV calls upon every American to ponder the words and actions of the Administration. Any bigot who speaks or acts in a hateful manner, regardless of his political leanings, is clearly defying the President, his values, and stated positions, as well as the grand tradition of religious tolerance in America. We call upon the Jewish community, and all Americans of good will, to stand with President Trump and against the vandals and bigots acting contrary to his words and deeds.

May God bless the President and the United States of America.
