CNS News: Rep. Ilhan Omar’s Office Claims Pro-Israel Lobby is Putting Her ‘Life at Risk’

In a tweet posted today, Jeremy Slevin, the senior communications director for House Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), said the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) is putting Omar’s “life at risk” by posting advertisements that allegedly “smear and vilify” her.

“The language AIPAC uses in paid ads to smear and vilify @IlhanMN is virtually identical to the language used in death threats she gets,” tweeted Slevin. “Make no mistake: AIPAC is putting Rep. Omar’s life at risk with repeated Islamophobic attack ads.”

The tweet included an image of an AIPAC ad that reads, “Stand WITH America. Stand AGAINST Terrorists.” The ad includes a photo of Omar and further reads, “For Ilhan Omar, there is no difference between America and the Tlaiban. Between Israel and Hamas, between democracies and terrorists.  Tell Rep. Omar: Condemn Terrorists, Not America.”

Slevin also included an image of a June 9, 2021 tweet by Omar that reads, “TW: Every time I speak out on human rights I am inundated with death threats. Here is one we just got. ‘Muslims are terrorists. And she is a raghead n*****. And every anti-American communist piece of s*** that works for her, I hope you get what’s f***ing coming for you.”

Slevin does not state that the death threat against Omar was sparked by the AIPAC ad. He only claims that the language is “virtually identical.”

Nowhere in the AIPAC ad are the words “raghead n*****,” “anti-American communist piece of s***,” or “f***ing coming for you” used.

The AIPAC ad clearly implies that there is a difference between law-based democracies, such as the U.S. and Israel, and terror-based organizations, such as Hamas. The U.S. State Department placed Hamas on its list of foreign based terrorist organizations in October 1997.

In June, Rep. Omar tweeted, “We must have the same level of accountability and justice for all victims of crimes against humanity. We have seen unthinkable atrocities committed by the U.S., Hamas, Israel, Afghanistan, and the Taliban.”

In March she suggested that people who are pro-Israel harbor a dual loyalty. As reported, Omar said, “I want to talk about the political influence in this country that says it is OK for people to push for allegiance to a foreign country.”

In 2012, Omar tweeted, “Israel has hypnotized the world, may Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel.”

Commenting on Omar’s June 2021 tweet, the Coalition for Jewish Values, which represents some 1,500 Orthodox and conservative rabbis, said in a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), “Rep. Omar’s unfounded assertion that Israel committed ‘unthinkable atrocities’ by defending lives against an openly genocidal terror organization is not merely offensive, it is pernicious—for it is grounded in the blood libel and the calumny that Jews poisoned wells during the Black Death.”

“Jews are being attacked day and night on American streets by mobs incited by Rep. Omar’s rhetoric,” said the Coalition. “Yet the Congressional Progressive Caucus claims that it is Rep. Omar who is facing ‘threats.’ We are appalled…. We reiterate that the mob attacks on American Jews today are directly attributable to the rhetoric of Rep. Omar and those who stand with her within and beyond Congress.”

Before working for Omar, Jeremy Slevin was employed by the far-left Center for American Progress, and by MSNBC as a segment producer.

Update: In response to Slevin’s tweet about AIPAC, Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) tweeted, “I am so sick of this s***.” And in response to that remark, AIPAC tweeted, “So are we, Congresswoman. Inciting hate by demonizing Israel and spreading vicious, dangerous lies about our democratic ally Israel doesn’t advance the prospects for peace.”
