British courts ruled that Alta had to die, even though the Israeli and American governments offered her family residence and the provision of continued life support for Alta, sparing the UK the burden of her care. CJV facilitated many efforts behind the scenes, but to no avail. The British government adamantly refused to allow Alta Fixsler to leave the country, and insisted on ending her life.
