The Jewish Telegraphic Agency (JTA) revealed two weeks ago that the Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA), the umbrella organization representing hundreds of Jewish Federations and community groups across the continent, had sent member federations a “Jewish Federations Public Priorities” document that “removed advocacy for gun control, voting rights and LGBTQ protections.”

Instead, a senior JFNA official told the JTA, they were focusing upon the underlying “important bipartisan values that Jewish communities have long held dear.” Specifically, the document underscored Jewish communal security, support for Israel, communal infrastructure, health and human services, and “human and civil rights, justice and equity” — all but the last word (as “equity” is code for race-based standards over real equality) reflecting items which Jews would expect their federations to work for.
