A bill put forth in Missouri would prevent doctors from prescribing medication or devices for a woman attempting to end a dangerous ectopic pregnancy without medical supervision. Instead, Missouri House Bill 2810 would require physicians to directly manage her treatment and the termination themselves.
An ectopic pregnancy is one where the fertilized egg stops in the fallopian tube or elsewhere outside the uterus, a situation in which the fetus cannot properly develop but can cause medical injury leading to loss of the mother’s life. It is a situation in which medical termination of the pregnancy is required as a life-saving measure and in which, unfortunately, the life of the fetus cannot be preserved.
Far from threatening their health, the bill’s intent is to protect women from harm when left to terminate a dangerous, potentially deadly ectopic pregnancy themselves. Instead, it requires that the ectopic pregnancy be resolved under direct supervision of a physician. It prohibits the prescription of drugs or devices that would permit a woman to attempt to end the pregnancy herself. Guidance from the Food and Drug Administration website also counter-indicates prescribing Mifepristone for an ectopic pregnancy.

Nonetheless, numerous prominent figures on the Left and internet discussion boards falsely portrayed the bill as making life-saving abortions illegal, despite their obvious medical necessity in this case. Of course, Jewish Leftists took particular aim at those they regard as “Republican supporters” like the Republican Jewish Coalition and the CJV, predicting that we would be “silent” on this obvious travesty.
CJV set the record straight, explained that the leftist description of the bill was entirely false, and noted that, “The fact that pro-abortion advocates have to lie to make their case is revealing.” Indeed it is.
