Coalition for Jewish Values (CJV), representing over 2,500 traditional, Orthodox rabbis in American public policy, today congratulated the Biden Administration for a critical step forward in the fight after Antisemitism, after eight federal agencies clarified in writing, for the first time, that anti-Jewish discrimination is included in Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. This followed upon President Biden’s National Strategy to Counter Anti-Semitism published earlier this year.
CJV President Rabbi Yoel Schonfeld made the following statement:
We applaud the Biden Administration and the eight federal departments that expressly committed to fighting Anti-Jewish and other forms of discrimination as part of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act. We also urge the Administration to direct resources as necessary to clear the backlog of Title VI complaints waiting to be investigated by the Department of Education Office for Civil Rights. With both commitment and action, the Administration can help ensure that Jewish and other communities are able to study, worship, work, and live out their lives free of discrimination.
