Coalition for Jewish Values (CJV) joins Klal Yisrael (the Congregation of Israel) in mourning the tragic and untimely passing of Rabbi Moshe Hauer, zt”l (o.b.m.), Executive Vice President of the Orthodox Union (OU). His sudden departure is a profound loss to the Jewish world and to all who were privileged to know him.
Rabbi Hauer was a distinguished talmid chacham (scholar), a principled and eloquent voice for Torah in the public square, and a leader of rare integrity, humility, and vision. In every setting, he combined deep Torah scholarship with warmth, empathy, and moral clarity. His leadership was marked by a sincere commitment to achdus (unity)—building bridges across the Jewish world while remaining steadfast to Torah values.
Throughout his career—from decades of devoted rabbinic service in Baltimore to his national leadership at the OU—Rabbi Hauer inspired and guided countless individuals and communities. His counsel and collaboration were valued across communal lines, including by those working on matters of public policy and Jewish advocacy. He led the OU as it both resolved internal issues and moved, as an organization, to address the new challenges facing the Jewish community today.

In CJV’s work, we were privileged to witness Rabbi Hauer’s principled stance on behalf of Torah and the Jewish people, his thoughtful engagement with contemporary challenges, and his unwavering emunah (faith). His voice was one of quiet, reserved, humble authority, and he elevated every conversation with his depth, kindness, and dedication to Torah.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife, family, colleagues, talmidim, and the entire OU and Baltimore communities. May they be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.
Rabbi Moshe Hauer’s legacy of Torah leadership, moral clarity, and unity will continue to inspire us. Baruch Dayan HaEmes, Blessed be the True Judge.
