Coalition for Jewish Values Statement on the Burial of the Final Israeli Hostage
January 28, 2026

Coalition for Jewish Values (CJV) commemorates with all the People of Israel, the interment of the body of Ran Gvili, bringing the last hostage held in Gaza to his final rest. This is a solemn moment for the Jewish people and for all who value human dignity.

The Torah teaches that human life is sacred beyond measure, that whoever saves a single life is considered as though they saved an entire world. The Torah also affirms the sanctity not only of the soul, but of the human body itself, even after life has ended. The determination to bring a fallen captive home is therefore not merely an act of national loyalty; it is an expression of the deepest Divine moral commitments of the Jewish people.

Few nations in history have demonstrated such devotion to the dignity of their citizens. The extraordinary efforts undertaken to recover the remains of this hostage, carried out under dangerous conditions and at great risk, reflect a moral vision that refuses to abandon any individual, even when hope is painfully limited. This commitment stands in stark contrast to the barbarism of Israel’s enemies, who desecrate life and treat human beings, even their own children, as expendable.

CJV commends the State of Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, President Donald J. Trump, and the brave men and women of the Israel Defense Force (IDF), whose perseverance ensured that no one was forgotten and no one was left behind.

May Ran’s memory and that of all the victims of October 7 be a blessing, and may the day soon come when such tragedies cease, and human life and dignity are honored everywhere.
