The Bnei Menashe, a community in India, claim to be from the Ten Lost Tribes of Israel. They keep kosher, observe the Sabbath, and follow many other Jewish practices. After a similar wave of immigration last year, the recent arrival of 550 new immigrants mean roughly half of the 10,000 members of the community are now in Israel.
The newest immigrants recently assembled at the Western Wall accompanied by Israel’s Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi, Rabbi David Lau. They prayed on behalf of the 5,000 Bnei Menashe still in Israel, that they, too, should be able to join them in Israel.
