Lorie Smith is an artist who runs her own design studio, 303 Creative, in Colorado. She wants to use her skills to promote causes consistent with her beliefs and close to her heart, but Colorado’s agencies, the same people who have persecuted Jack Phillips of Masterpiece Cakeshop, will not let her design for Biblical marriages unless she also celebrates marriages that violate her personal beliefs. Smith challenged the law to protect her freedom and her art studio.
On Monday, Dec. 5, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear Smith’s plea to be able to celebrate those events that accord with her beliefs. And from 8 am to 12 Noon, Alliance Defending Freedom, the legal team representing her, will be holding a rally on the steps of the Supreme Court on her behalf.
CJV President Rabbi Yoel Schonfeld and Managing Director Rabbi Yaakov Menken are both invited to speak about the threats to the Jewish community posed by government controlling speech, much less coercing speech. This is a key issue for the Jewish community, and CJV is proud to stand for our religious and civil rights.
